Yakity Yak, don't talk back
This short look into the life of Bell Hooks let's us see just how life of black women was in the 1950's. They could not be very outspoken, or speak very much at all when in the presence of men or important people. Now a-days, they can pretty much say anything they want, when ever they want. African-American women have so many rights today, that they don't know what to do with them all. This simply shows how much we have progressed, as a country, through out these few short years. Most people take these rights for granted in today's society, but the people that were born in Bell Hooks' time, definitely are not taking them for granted.

I also agree that many of us take our rights for granted. It really seems as if we tend to forget what others have gone through unless it is really put into perspective for us.
I agree that some people in today's society take their rights for granted. For example, a woman born when women were not allowed to vote would not take the right for granted. In today's society many people choose not to vote, even though people before them fought relentlessly for that very right.
Well alrighty then! We do meaning people take many things for granted and it's a shame but what can you do but, do your part and keep it moving.
I completely agree. It reminds me when we were talking in class about Learning How to Read and Write. Back then, the ability to read and write were viewed as privileges, unlike today, when it's so common that we really don't think about it.
